Our History
Chalet Development, Denver's premier luxury homebuilder, was formed in October of 2006 when John Mattingly and Lance Gutsch of JBL Development formed a new partnership with Cornell Teague.
The idea behind the new venture was to create a new brand in urban development, distinct from the renovation market where John and Lance began.
In 2004, they formed JBL Development in response to an increasing demand for larger, newer homes in older, more traditional neighborhoods. John's interest in creating the perfect "new, old house" lead to the company's first scrape on 2161 South Columbine in Observatory Park.
After a strong response to their focus on quality custom construction and a continued increase in demand for custom homes near downtown Denver, John and Lance sought a partner who could provide an intimate understanding of the central Denver real estate market.
They found this partner in Cornell Teague, and Chalet Development LLC was formed on the belief that there is a demand for site–specific, custom built luxury homes for sale in central Denver's premier urban neighborhoods.
Chalet Development set out to fill this void by constructing timeless "new, old houses." They began to focus their efforts on building projects in Washington Park, Observatory Park, Country Club South, and Bonnie Brae. Rejecting the "cookie-cutter" approach, Chalet made a commitment to excellence and quality. No two homes are alike. Each is characterized by a pledge to quality craftsmanship, exquisite detail, and modern amenities, all while preserving the nostalgic charm of the neighborhood. Each of Chalet's floor plans meet the unique demands of discerning buyers.
As of April 2008, Chalet Development has completed five new projects in Denver's Washington Park neighborhood, with twelve more projects underway.
